SUBMISSION GUIDE
Dispatches Magazine & Anthologies
This is an outline of rules basic to MWSA style for use in articles, reviews, and the anthology. Please note that in accordance with MWSA’s Ethics Policy, we do not accept politically, religiously, racially biased, or anti-U.S./U.S. military material for our publications nor our awards program.
Refer to The Chicago Manual of Style, current edition, for questions of grammar.
Refer to Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary (http://www.merriam-webster.com/) as the primary authority on spelling and word usage. Use Webster’s first spelling if there is a choice and use American (not British) spellings.
GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS
MWSA is a nonprofit organization, and we do not pay for articles. Our goal is to help publish and share your written work.
MWSA reserves the right to edit or publish any content or image submitted for publication.
The views and opinions expressed in MWSA publications are those of the individual authors and do not necessarily represent the official policy or position of MWSA.
AUTHOR PHOTOS, SUPPORTING IMAGES, WORD COUNT
Send a high-resolution headshot and any supporting images with your article.
Headshots are typically used for authors of feature articles (more than 500 words).
We standardize the color and size of the photo.
High-resolution photos typically range in the > 500KB above size. The higher the resolution, the better.
MWSA Communications reserves the right to alter, adjust, and supply images as needed.
Ensure you own the rights to any images or have been given permission to use supplied images.
For Dispatches Magazine, we accept articles of 1500 words or less. We can run articles over the word count, but they must be submitted in multiple parts.
We list names of authors in the Table of Contents and in their bylines.
PHOTO/IMAGE CAPTIONING
Other than author headshots, If submitting images with a story, please include the desired caption or captions and photo credit (i.e., Joan Smith graduating from boot camp in 2008 (Photo courtesy of the Smith family)) at the end of your text document.
If submitting artwork, please submit captions as you would like them to read providing credit to the artist.
