During our conference in San Diego last September, longtime MWSA member Joe Badal let us know that he wanted to help grow our membership through a $1000 donation. Joe’s generosity allows us to offer 50% discounts for new members (and, in some cases, dues extensions for existing members) to meet this goal.
We’re offering several types of discounts, so check out the sections below to see if you qualify and learn the steps required to take advantage of this program. If you are eligible, use our discount form to apply for the 50% discount or have us extend your dues by six months.

Discounts are available for a limited time and are subject to change
Please use the form below to apply for the discount or dues extension. Once we verify your eligibility, we’ll email you your discount code.
New member discounts are only applicable to the 1-year membership level
When applying for a new discounted membership, select “1-year member ($50 dues).”
Your 50% discount is applied after entering the discount code.

Types of Discounts and how to apply

+ Recruit a new member ▼
Who qualifies:
- Any existing member who successfully recruits a new member receives a six-month extension to their dues expiration date
- The newly-recruited member gets a 50% discount to their dues
How to get your discount or dues extension:
- To qualify, either the recruiting existing or recruited new member must fill out the application form below (so our membership secretary knows who's recruiting who).
- It's okay if both the old and new member fill out forms separately.
- Existing members may submit more than one new member--the more the merrier (and the longer you go without paying dues)!
- Enter the NAME AND EMAIL ADDRESS of the recruiting/recruited member in the comments section
- MWSA will email the recruited new member a discount code

- Options for exiting or new members
- If you're the recruiting MWSA member, we'll add six months to your dues expiration date once your recruitee uses their 50% discount to join as a new member
- If you're the newly-recruited MWSA member, sign up for a 1-year member - $50.00 (USD). Enter the code we sent you to get your 50% discount

Who qualifies: anyone who participated in one of MWSA's Write Your Story Seminars.
How to get your discount:
- Fill out the application form below
- Enter the location and date (if you remember) that you attended an MWSA Write Your Story seminar in the "Message" section
- MWSA will email you a discount code

- Sign up for a a 1-year member - $50.00 (USD). Enter the code we sent you to get your 50% discount
+ Contribute to Dispatches magazine or our 2025 Anthology ▼
Who qualifies: anyone contributing to Dispatches magazine or our 2025 anthology.
How to get your discount:
- Fill out the application form below
- Enter the title of the Dispatches article or anthology contribution accepted for publication in the "Message" section
- MWSA will email you a discount code
- Click here to go to our "New Member" page
- Options for existing or new members whose contributions are accepted for publication
- If you're already an MWSA member, we'll add six months to your dues expiration date
- If you're not already a member, sign up for a 1-year member - $50.00 (USD). Enter the code we sent you to get your 50% discount
+ Limited-time upgrade for current associate members ▼
Who qualifies: The first five current associate members who apply.
How to get your discount:
- Fill out the application form below. You can enter "N/A" in the "Message" section if you select the "Upgrade from associate member" Option.
- MWSA will email you a discount code.
- Click here to go to our "Existing Member" page
- After you sign in, click on "Change" next to your current membership level.
- Select "1-year member - $50.00 (USD)."
- You can disregard the yellow warning saying "Please note: full price of the new membership term will be billed. No refund will be done." It does NOT apply to upgrading associate members, and you will receive your 50% discount after entering the code on the next page.
- Enter the code we sent you to get your 50% discount discounted upgrade to full membership.
